RAAVANAN MOVIE REVIEW

Manikandan), by-now cult songs (A R Rahman) and interesting performances by its lead actors. And the significance of the movie appears in the same order mentioned above.
Mani’s conviction of illustrating an unachievable love story between the two leads (Aishwarya Rai and Vikram) is palpable from the very start of the movie. However, the blossoming of love doesn’t quite form the back bone of Raavanan so much. The movie digresses into other aspects - a man hunt, flash backs, revenge drama and so on and so forth. The man hunts lack dexterity, the revenge drama that is triggered by the death of Vikram’s sister seems engineered and Prithviraj often comes across as stiff – showing unnecessary tautness in the character that is probably designed to defy emotions (may be because he is in his Khakis?).
But all that is absolved, as the movie stunningly unfolds often drenching itself in the monsoonal deluge making you feel rain-soaked. If you have any doubt about Mani’s eternal love affair with rain, Raavanan stands as a remarkable testimony. It rains in the song sequences, in encounters and in emotional scenes. And at other instances, the sky is constantly downcast as if threatening to pour down. And the cinematography captures it all in delightful exuberance.
For the most part, Vikram owns the movie seizing it magnificently even from Mani’s own hands. His love blooms out of astonishment at the outwardly courage displayed by Aishwarya Rai and he makes those scenes persuasive for the viewer. He infuses life into the character and shows no jaggedness, falling for a married woman thus replicating, probably the characters of Raavanan. Suhasini’s profound dialogues come in handy in many places and the viewer is made to read between lines quite often.
Aishwarya Rai’s semblance of the late Padmini is unmistakable, it could be her dialogues or the way she manages her composure attentively even in the hardest of terrains the character puts her through. The lady sure has attempted to reach on par with Vikram in performance in many sequences. Kudos to Mani for a dignified portrayal of his lead woman. There is a refreshing strength in Ragini’s character brought out well by Aishwarya.
Prithvi plays a toughie police officer and somehow his character portrayal leaves a few questions unanswered: for instance, his love for Aishwarya Rai is weighed down by his commitment and that singular fact does not come across convincingly.
Priyamani plays the ill-fated Vennila and leaves a lump in your throat. Karthik in his second innings steals the show. Prabhu and Munna play support roles that ebb and flow with the movie.
Cinematography by Santosh Sivan is brilliant and has rendered the perfect support for Mani. His probing lens takes the audience through the thick jungles, the mighty waterfalls and the rough terrains of India. Music and art direction play equally momentous role in Raavanan as its lead actors. If not for Rahman’s songs and background score, Vikram’s unrequited love wouldn’t have been so painful for us. The songs have already been much debated about and leave no scope for further discussion. One word though: it’s not for nothing “Usure Pogude…” has achieved a cult status. You tend to try hard not to fall in love but fail with the song as Vikram heaves a sigh of relief, having seen Aishwarya Rai breathing and alive after a steep fall.
Sameer Chanda’s art direction complements the ruggedness and splendid beauty of the nature in the jungles so well you refuse to believe anything is man-made.
A major drawback is the lack of ‘Tamil’ feel in the film and its music; it more appears for the audience north of Vindhyas in many places. What Mani loses out is the pace over the later part of the first half; he gains it back with a major twist in the climax. Although you have a few questions about the incidents leading to the finale, those are done away with - thanks to the elegiac climax.

திடுக்கிடும் தமன்னா!
த்ரிஷா, நயன்தாரா, அசின் மூணு பேரும் வேற மொழி படங்களில் நடிக்க போனதன் விளைவு தமன்னா மார்க்கெட்டில் நல்ல பண மழை. முன்னணி ஹீரோக்களும் வேற வழியில்லாம வெள்ளை மச்சத்தில் மயங்கினார்கள். ஆனால் அது ஒரு கனாக்காலம்னு சொல்ற நிலையை சீக்கிரமே எட்டப் போகிறார் தமன்னா என்கிறது சினிஜோதிடம்.
விஜய், சூர்யா, தனுஷ் என்று றெக்கை கட்டி பறந்த தமன்னாவுக்கு அப்படியே அஜீத் படத்தில் நடித்துவிட வேண்டும் என்பதும் கொள்ளாத ஆசை. அதை சில பேட்டிகளிலும் தெரிவித்திருந்தார். ஆனால் தல தரப்பிலிருந்து நோ ரெஸ்பான்ஸ். இந்நிலையில் கவுதம் மேனன் இயக்கும் படத்தில் அஜீத்திற்கு ஜோடியாக நடிக்கப் போவது தெலுங்கு நடிகை சமந்தா என்கிறார்கள். விண்ணை தாண்டி வருவாயா படத்தின் தெலுங்கு வெர்ஷனில் நடித்தவர்தான் இந்த சமந்தா. இந்த செய்தியை கேட்டதிலிருந்தே அப்செட்டில் இருக்கிறாராம் தமன்னா.
அனுஷ்கா, ஹன்சிகா மோத்வானி, சமந்தா, மீண்டும் தமிழில் த்ரிஷா, அசின் என்று, தான் குறி வைத்திருந்த இடமெல்லாம் ஃபுல்லாகி வருவதால் 'ஃபுல் வருத்தத்தில்' இருக்கிறாராம் தமன்னா. இந்த சரிவை கணக்கிலேயே கொள்ளாமல் சம்பளம் ஒரு கோடி என்று பல்லிளிக்கிறாராம் அவரது மேனேஜர். ஒண்ணு மேனேஜரை மாத்துங்க. இல்ல சம்பளத்தை மாத்துங்க என்று அட்வைஸ் பண்ணுகிறார்கள் தமன்சுக்கு!
பிஸியான கவுதம்மேனன்
ஆனால் இந்தப் பிரச்சனை குறித்துப் பேசும் கௌதம் மேனனோ, ‘நான் மாண்புமிகு தமிழக முதல்வர் மு.கருணாநிதி அவர்களுக்கு என் பணிவான வணக்கங்கள்...’ என்று தான் பேச ஆரம்பித்தேன். ஏதாவது சந்தேகம் இருந்தா நிகழ்ச்சியைப் பதிவு செய்த வீடியோ கேசட்டை போட்டு பார்க்கச் சொல்லுங்க... என்கிறார்.
‘விண்ணைத்தாண்டி வருவாயா?’ இந்தி கன்னட ரீமேக், அஜித்தின் அடுத்த படம், சூர்யாவுடன் ஒரு படம் என அடுத்தடுத்து பிஸியான கமிட்மென்டில் இருக்கும் கௌதம் மேனன், ‘நான் ஆங்கிலத்தில் படம் எடுத்தால், தமிழ்நாட்டில் நூறு ரசிகர்களாவது என் படத்துக்கு இருப்பார்கள்...’ என்கிறார்.
ரெக்கார்ட் பிரேக் பண்ணும் ‘சிங்கம்’
அதுவும் சென்னையில் சிங்கம் திரையிடப்பட்ட தியேட்டர்களில் இருந்த கூட்டம் படிப்படியாக குறைந்துபோனது. ஆனால் சென்னைக்கு வெளியே நிலைமை நேர் மாறாக இருக்கிறது.
மதுரை, சேலம், திருநெல்வேலி போன்ற ஏரியாக்களில் இன்னும் வசூலை அள்ளிக் குவித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறதாம் ‘சிங்கம்’. இந்தப் படத்தின் இயக்குநர் ஹரி‘பி,சி சென்டர்’ இயக்குநர்தான். இவரது எல்லா படங்களுமே ‘பி,சி சென்டர்’களில் வசூலில் இமாலய சாதனை படைத்தவை தான், அதனால் ‘சிங்கம்’ வசூல் சாதனை படைப்பதில் ஆச்சரியம் ஒன்றும் இல்லைதான்.
சீமான்-தாணு-விஜய் கைகோர்க்கும் 'பகலவன்'!
இந்தப் படத்தைத் தயாரிப்பவர், பிரமாண்டம் என்ற சொல்லுக்கு சினிமாவில் புதிய அர்த்தம் தந்த கலைப்புலி எஸ் தாணு.
விஜய் ஹீரோவாக நடிக்கிறார். ஹீரோயின் மற்றும் இதர டெக்னீஷியன்கள் குறித்து
இன்னும் ஓரிரு வாரத்தில் அதிகாரப்பூர்வ அறிவிப்பு வெளியாக உள்ளது.
இதுகுறித்து இயக்குநர் சீமான் கூறுகையில், "நானும் தம்பி விஜய்யும் இணைந்து புதிய படம் செய்வது உறுதியானதுதான். அண்ணன் தாணுவுக்காக இந்தப் படத்தை உருவாக்குகிறோம். தரத்தில் இரண்டு மடங்கு 'தம்பி'யாக இந்தப் படம் அமையும்..." என்றார்.
தயாரிப்பாளர் தாணு கூறுகையில், "சச்சினுக்குப் பிறகு தம்பி விஜய்யுடன் இணைந்து படம் செய்கிறேன். தம்பி சீமானைப் பற்றி நான் சொல்லத் தேவையில்லை. அவருடைய இயக்கத்தில் படம் செய்வது பெருமையாக உள்ளது. படம் குறித்த விவரங்கள் விரைவில் அறிவிக்கப்படும்", என்றார்.
தீர்ந்தது விஜய் பிரச்சினை!
செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை இரவு நடிகர் சங்க வளாகத்தில் திடீரென இந்த பஞ்சாயத்து கூட்டப்பட்டது.
நடிகர் சங்க தலைவர் சரத்குமார், செயலாளர் ராதாரவி ஏற்பாட்டில் திரையரங்க உரிமையாளர் சங்க தலைவர் பன்னீர் செல்வத்துடன் பேச்சுவார்த்தை நடத்தினார் விஜய். கூடவே அவரது அப்பா எஸ்.ஏ.சந்திரசேகரும், சுறா பட தயாரிப்பாளர் சங்கிலி முருகனும் இருந்தார்கள்.
சுற்றி வளைக்காமல் நேரடியாகவே விஷயத்துக்கு வந்த விஜய், 'நான் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் சொல்லுங்கள்?' என்று நேரடியாகக் கேட்க, நஷ்ட ஈட்டின் அளவை பன்னீர் செல்வம் விளக்கினார்.
ஆனால் அவர் கேட்ட தொகையைக் கொடுப்பது சாத்தியமில்லை என்பதுபோல விஜய் பேச, விருட்டென்று எழுந்து போய்விட்டார்களாம் திரையரங்கு உரிமையாளர் சங்கத்தினர்.
நிலைமையின் தீவிரம் உணர்ந்ததால், மேலும் இறங்கிவந்த விஜய், மீண்டும் அவர்களை அழைத்து பேசினாராம். இனியும் இந்தப் பிரச்சினையை வளர விடுவது சரியல்ல என்று சரத்தும் ராதாரவியும் விஜய்யிடம் கூறினார்களாம்.
இப்போது இருதரப்பும் ஒரு புதிய முடிவை எட்டியுள்ளன. அதன்படி காவல்காரன் படத்தை குறைந்த விலைக்கு விற்பதென்றும், அடுத்த படத்தையும் இதேபோல விற்று நஷ்டத்தைச் சரிகட்டுவதாகவும் விஜய் கூறியுள்ளாராம்.
இதில் சமாதானமடைந்து, திரையரங்க உரிமையாளர்களும் விஜய்க்கு எதிரான போராட்டத்தைக் கைவிட்டுள்ளதாகக் கூறப்படுகிறது.

புலிகளுக்கு எதிரான படம்? : சீமான் கொந்தளிப்பு!
விடுதலைப்புலிகள் பற்றி எடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் மலையாள படமான ராம ராவணன் படம் குறித்து எழுந்த சர்ச்சைகளை அடுத்து நாம் தமிழர் கட்சியின் தலைவர் சீமான் ஒரு அறிக்கை வெளியிட்டுள்ளார்.
அது பின் வருமாறு-
ராம ராவணன் என்ற மலையாளப் படத்தின் பத்திரிகையாளர் சிறப்புக் காட்சி நேற்று திரையிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.
தமிழ் ஈழப் போராளிகளைக் கொச்சைப்படுத்தும் விதத்தில் இந்தப் படத்தை எடுத்திருப்பதாக, படம் பார்த்துவிட்டு வந்ததும், உணர்வுள்ள தமிழ்ப் பத்திரிகையாளர்கள் பலர் கொந்தளித்தார்கள்.
சிங்களத்தையும் புத்தத்தையும் உயர்த்திப் பிடிக்கும், தமிழினத்தைக் காட்டுமிராண்டிகளாகச் சித்தரிக்கும் இந்தப் படத்தை, சமய சகுனிப் படமாகவே கருதுகிறோம். தமிழினத்துக்கும் தமிழீழ விடுதலைக்கும் களங்கம் கற்பிக்கவே இப்படத்தை இங்கு வெளியிட முனைகிறார்கள் என்பது உறுதியாகத் தெரிகிறது. இதன் பின்னணியில் மறைந்துள்ள சதி எதுவாக இருந்தாலும் அதனை வெளிக் கொணர்வோம்.
இந்தப்படம் வெளியானால் அது மக்கள் மத்தியில் ஈழப் போராட்டம் பற்றிய தவறான அபிப்பிராயங்களை ஏற்படுத்தும். பல்லாயிரக்கணக்காக போராளிகளின் தியாகத்தையும் வீரத்தையும் கொச்சைப்படுத்தும் பதிவாகவும் அது அமையும். அதற்கு இடம் தர முடியாது.
கேரளாவிலிருந்து வந்து ஈழப் போராட்டத்தையும் தமிழர்களின் மனநிலையையும் வேறு கண்ணோட்டத்தோடு புரிந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் உங்களுக்கு எங்களின் வேதனை புரியாது.
தமிழ் ஈழ விடுதலைப் போரின் அடியோ முடியோ தெரியாமல் தற்குறித்தனமாக எடுத்திருக்கும் படம் இது. இந்தத் தவறான படத்துக்கு தமிழ் மண்ணில் இடம் கிடையாது.
மீறித் திரையிட முயன்றால், தமிழகத்திலும், உலகில் தமிழ் மக்கள் வாழும் எந்தப் பகுதியிலும் இந்தப் படத்தைத் திரையிட விடமாட்டோம் என்று எச்சரிக்கிறோம்.
இப்படி ஒரு தவறான படத்தை எடுத்ததற்காக சம்பந்தப்பட்ட படக்குழுவினருக்கு எமது கண்டனத்தைத் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறோம்.
இவ்வாறு அந்த அறிக்கையில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
சிலம்பரசன் படத்தில் மாதவன்?
ஒன்று வரலட்சுமியுடன் ஜோடி சேரும் போடா போடி. இதன் படப்பிடிப்பு லண்டனில் நடக்கிறது.
இன்னொன்று லிங்குசாமி இயக்கும் படம். தமிழ், தெலுங்கு இரு மொழிகளில் இந்தப் படம் தயாராகிறது. தெலுங்கில் சிம்பு வேடத்தில் மகேஷ் பாபு நடிக்கிறார்.
இந்தப் படத்தில் சிம்புவுக்கு அண்ணன் கதாபாத்திரம் ஒன்று வருகிறது. ஹீரோவுக்கு இணையான கதாபாத்திரமாம் இது. இந்த கதாபாத்திரத்தில் மாதவன் நடித்தால் நன்றாக இருக்கும் என எதிர்பார்க்கிறார் லிங்குசாமி.
இரண்டு ஹீரோக்களுடன் மாதவன் நடிப்பது புதிதல்ல. இப்போதும் மன்மதன் அம்பு படத்தில் கமலுடன் நடிக்கிறார். கமலுக்கு காட்டிய அதே கரிசனத்தை சிம்புவுக்கும் அவர் காட்டுவாரா?

பிரபல நடிகையுடன் படுக்கையில் சாமியார் நித்தியானந்தா: ஆவேசத்தில் பக்தர்கள்
பிரபல சாமியார் நித்தியானந்தா "R" என்ற எழுத்தில் தொடங்கும் தமிழ் நடிகையுடன் உல்லாசமாக இருக்கும் காணொளி தனியார் தொலைக்காட்சியில் ஒளிப்பரப்பானது.
இருவரும் ஒரு அறையில் உள்ளனர். அது ஆசிரமாக இருக்கலாம் என்று கூறுகின்றனர். அந்த அறையில் புடவையுடன் இருக்கும் நடிகை சாமியாருடன் நெருக்கமாக படுக்கையில் புரளும் காட்சிகள் இடம் பெற்றிருக்கின்றன. பின்னர் விளக்குகள் அணைக்கப்படுகின்றன.
இதேபோல் அடுத்தக் காட்சியில் நடிகை சுடிதாரில், சாமியார் இருக்கும் அறைக்கு வருகிறார். அப்போது மாத்திரை கொடுக்கிறார், காபி கொடுக்கிறார். பின்னர் பழையபடி விளக்குகள் அணைக்கப்படுகின்றன. இந்தக் காட்சிகளைப் பார்க்கும்போது நடிகைக்கும், சாமியாருக்கும் பல வருடங்களாகவே தொடர்பு இருப்பதாக உறுதிப்படுத்தப்படுகிறது.
திருவண்ணாமலையில் பிறந்த ராஜசேகரன் என்ற நித்தியானந்த சாமியார், திருவண்ணாமலை, பெங்களூர் போன்ற இடங்களில் ஆசிரமங்கள் நடத்தி வருகிறார். தற்போது வெளியாகி உள்ள இந்த வீடியோ காட்சிகள் இவரது ஆசிரமத்துக்கு சென்று வரும் பக்தர்களிடம் பெரும் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது.
சாமியாரை கைது செய்யக்கோரி ஆர்.எஸ்,எஸ் அமைப்பினர் ஆர்ப்பாட்டம் செய்து 10 பேர் கைதாகியுள்ளனர். அவரது ஆசிரமத்திலுள்ள அவரது படங்கள் ஆசிரம ஊழியர்களாலேயே கிழித்து எரியப்பட்டுள்ளது.

Pongal Movie Result - 2010
The most expected film of this year.A different try from Selvaraghavan.The first half is entertaining.Selva's frenziedly unleashed creativity makes you hallucinate towards the end of the movie and delirium sets in soon. It's not enough that a solid disclaimer is in place, a little bit of research about the subject would've helped things in the process. The underdeveloped script lacks everything - starting from strong plot twists to captive locations to graphics to credibility, above all.
Aayirathil Oruvan also ends on a very scary end note: about the journey of the Chola prince continuing as Karthi takes up the mantle.Bad climax and worst synchronization made the audiences horror.
Verdict: Average [One time for first half]
KUTTY MOVIE REVIEW
Kutty is a film that focuses on love and the ways in which it is expressed. It is definitely different from the regular commercial if you take into account that there is no over the top heroism or loud villains. The director has tried hard to make a feel good romantic flick and has partially succeeded. If you don't mind narration that is on the slow side more often than not and if you are willing to compromise a bit on entertainment for the central plot, then you might end up liking Kutt .

Commercialism is not child’s play
What is the class that Vijay represents? The actor, who plays to the galleries, makes movies for fans, looks to entertain and doesn’t care much about critics. One gets the feeling that this class of actors is not sometimes given the respect that is their due. Not that they seem to particularly care, they are happy to see the masses enjoying their films. But, there seems to be a general opinion floating around amongst the so called A class audiences about the full-fledged commercial actor. Some of the important points seem to be; 1. they have no brains or have stopped using them 2. they can’t act even if their life depended on it 3. can’t do anything except dance, fight and look good 4. are obsessed with their larger than life image.
Yes, some of the points mentioned here might be a bit exaggerated. But, it cannot be denied that there are many people who do carry opinions that are very much similar to the above mentioned. The point is that many of the commercial heroes of our times are taken for granted. The skill and charisma that they bring to the screen is sometimes totally ignored because they are supposed to be stereotypical or clichéd. The thing that we tend to forget sometimes is that the job they do is not everybody’s cup of tea.
It has to be admitted that pulling off a larger than life character, mouthing punch lines, bashing up 50 odd men single handedly and other such cinematic items is not child’s play. Let’s try thinking of it this way- which is the bigger challenge- playing a true to life character or a larger than life character? Playing a true to life character demands a actor to behave much like an ordinary man would do in situations that life throws at him. But, a larger than life character demands an actor to create a mould for himself, craft his own style ad become a different person, a type that does not exist in normal life. True to life characters have templates, models and examples – a larger than life character has none (except in cinema). The energy, the inspiration and the ideas have to come from within the performer. It takes a lot of work, thought and talent to make an audience take a liking to an actor in a larger than life role.
It is not every actor who can pull off a 5 fight, 5 songs and punch dialogue routine without looking silly. Only a select few have that level of screen presence and persona to make the audience (not all sections) clap in delight when they go through these predictable yet enjoyable routines. One also feels that the delivery of the punch dialogue is one of the least appreciated skills in the film industry. It takes tremendous confidence and faith in one’s ability to say lines that sometimes outgrow the script itself. Very few actors can mouth such lines without eliciting sniggers and sneers from the audience.
To see the point more clearly, try answering this question. How many commercial ‘larger than life stars’ have at least one well performed true to life character to their credit? Almost everyone, would be the answer. Every commercial star has played a down to earth guy at least once in their career if not more number of times. But, can the converse be said about actors who play only the real-life type of characters. That is, does every ‘reality’ actor have at least one ‘larger than life’ role to their credit? Very few have been successful in such attempts.
Our full fledged commercial heroes do have the ability (they may not be class actors) to play some really well fleshed out characters. But, they do their kind of stuff in the industry because that is what is given to them. This might be a controversial statement, but, a good character actor is easier to replace than a commercial star. Character artistes have specializations – some are good at comedy, some at sentiments, some at villainy, some at action etc…. but, a commercial hero is expected to do just about everything in a 3 hour film. He plays the loving son (sentiment), the man in love (romance), capers around with the comedian, dances frenetically in songs and is full of energy in the stunts. A person who can carry of all this at a time is definitely talented. It is this ambivalent skill set of a star that is sometimes portrayed as silly mindless commercialism because ‘he is capable of nothing else’.
Yes, commercial stars do fail. When they fail, they look miserable to the point of being a joke. That is because making such cocktails of entertaining ingredients has a very fine balance which can easily be upset. Making commercial entertainers is a tight rope walk and our commercial heroes are at it all the time. That is why we see them falter and fall at times. But, let us not hold it against them and certainly let us not accuse them of being non-talented dim wits who cannot act. Look at the skills that they have, the entertainment that they deliver and the mass appeal that they command – you might be convinced that it takes a lot of skill and work to be one of that kind. Let us give them the respect that is their due.
